He was born March 25, 1922, in Dunkirk, NY, the second son of the late William and Gladys (Dean) Schulenberg. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Navy on the U.S.S. Effingham as a 1st class radioman in the South Pacific campaign.
October 11, 1942, Frank married the love of his life, Virginia Sherman, to whom he remained devoted through 73 years of marriage. Moving numerous times for promotions and business opportunities, Frank and Virginia were always together, sharing their many years of marriage with laughter, love and family.

His passion followed him in his professional career in communications for such companies as Motorola, where he helped obtain the patent for the first mobile telephone, and General Electric, which brought him to Lynchburg where he and Virginia lived for the final 40 years of his life. Besides working in mobile communications, Frank was a licensed gemologist, a speaker for Dale Carnegie, an announcer and DJ for WLLL/WGOL in Lynchburg, and a volunteer for the DAV, Salvation Army, and Hospice of the Hills.
Known for his wide range of interests, Frank had many hobbies, including achieving membership in MENSA and winning numerous awards for his photography. He loved music and besides having a strong baritone singing voice, Frank could play the xylophone and harmonica with skill. An avid reader, he was also an accomplished author, writing a number of science fiction short stories and an article published in BYTE magazine on computer science, another passion of his. He owned horses with his wife, Virginia, and for a time operated a riding stable with her. This was coupled with his love for riding motorcycles. An enthusiastic golfer, Frank played three times a week every week after he retired.
