Charles Michael Johnston

Charles Michael Johnston, 62, of Bedford passed away Thursday, July 31, 2014 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was the loving and beloved husband of Gwenn Hereford Johnston for 33 years.
Born August 19, 1951 in Roanoke, he was a son of the late Lawrence Drayton and Kitty Frith Johnston. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Kathleen Johnston Templeton. Michael was employed as an LPN in the Emergency Department at Stonewall Jackson Hospital. He was a lifelong caregiver.
In addition to his wife, Michael is survived by his son: Seth Drayton Johnston; daughter: Grace Michael Johnston; Brothers: Lawrence D. Johnston, II, Walter (Dick) Johnston, Elwood (Buddy) Johnston, Patrick H. Johnston; grandson: Greyson Thomas Bird and a number of other family members and friends.
Michael loved life and he lived it to the fullest. Wherever he went on his off time his pride and joy, Greyson went with him, whether it was a trip to the store, fishing or gardening, whatever he did he had his grandson with him.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Wildlife Center of Virginia, 1800 S. Delphine Ave. Waynesboro, VA 22980.
A celebration of life service will be held Friday, August 8, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home at 3:00 p.m.
