Devoted husband and father Charles Edwards Snee III, known to family and friends as Chad, passed away on November 28, 2023, surrounded by his wife and children, following a difficult battle with Parkinson’s disease.
Chad was born on August 8, 1941, to Charles Edwards Snee Jr. and Matilda McClelland Snee in Massillon, Ohio. After graduating from Lehman High School in Canton, Ohio, Chad earned a bachelor’s degree in engineering from Yale University in 1964. Chad then served four years in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of lieutenant. In 1972, he earned a Juris Doctorate from Georgetown University Law School.
Chad met his first wife, Karolen Bacon Linderman in Rehoboth Beach, Delaware in 1964. They were married in 1965 and had two sons, Charles Edwards Snee IV and Peter Clark Snee.
Chad met his second wife, Janet Celeste Cox, in Washington, D.C., in the summer of 1971 where they both were working at the U.S. Patent Office. Their marriage of 50 years began on September 1, 1973, and they had two children; Henry (“Mackie”) Thom McClelland LeFevre-Snee and Julia (“Beth”) Elizabeth Sanchez.
A voracious reader and driven by insatiable intellectual curiosity, Chad had a constant interest in current events, politics, history, and also enjoyed researching his family’s genealogy. He was an avid jogger, took up skiing in New Hampshire, and enjoyed riding his motorcycle on the Blue Ridge Parkway during his retirement in Lynchburg, Virginia. Chad also loved to travel, most notably in Europe, and to the seaside. Chad also made multiple cross-country road trips with his wife, Janet. Some of his favorite moments of solace included his daily commutes through the mountains and glades of northern New England.
After graduating from law school, Chad worked at the United States Patent Office and in private practice as an intellectual property lawyer in Washington, D.C., for the firms of Gib Semmes and Pollock, Vande Sande & Priddy and in Cleveland, Ohio, for Gould, Inc. In 1985, Chad moved with his family to Lebanon, New Hampshire, where he worked as an in-house attorney for AMCA International. From 1989 to 2005, Chad worked as an in-house attorney for Eastman Kodak Company in Rochester, New York, retiring as General Counsel.
Chad is survived by his wife, Janet; four children Charles (Lynne) Snee, Peter (Jeni) Snee, Mackie (Rachel) LeFevre-Snee and Beth (Dan) Sanchez; and 10 grandchildren: Katelyn Grace Snee, Charlotte Elizabeth Snee, Margaret Anne Snee, Cole Peter Snee, Liam Parker Snee, Noah Anthony Sanchez, Dane Cooper Snee, Abram Forrest Sanchez, Eva Penelope Sanchez, and Haskins Jude LeFevre-Snee; along with his siblings Henry Thom McClelland (Anne) Snee and Mary Penelope Penn.
The family will be forever thankful to Chad’s caregivers at Liberty Ridge Senior Retirement Facility in Lynchburg, Virginia.
A celebration of Chad’s life will be held in the spring of 2024. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be given to the Michael J. Fox Foundation.
