Charles “Chuck” Spotwood Goodman, 72, of Lynchburg, passed away at Guggenheimer, surrounded by his family on Tuesday, February 14, 2017.
He was born on May 28, 1944, to Louise P. Goodman and the late Cornelius S. Goodman. Twice married, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn M. Goodman, and his second wife, Faye W. Goodman. He was a member of Campbell Avenue Baptist Church.
Upon leaving Rustburg High School, Chuck served in the US Army and was stationed in Panama City during the Vietnam Era War. After returning from service, he went to work for Montague Betts, Crowell Bros., and River Ridge Roofing.
After retiring, Chuck loved to fish, shoot a game of pool, and play a friendly game of poker.
In addition to his father and wives, Chuck was preceded in death by his grandparents; a brother, Raymond (Vietnam); a sister, Evelyn Bruffy; and a sister-in-law, Patricia Goodman.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by two daughters, Janice Spitzer (Eric) and Jeannie Clay (Victor) of Rustburg; sons, Kevin Goodman (Marian) of Concord, and Rodger Lee Hunt (Robin) of Rustburg; a brother, Thomas Goodman; a sister, Mary Phelps (Richard) of Lynchburg; brother-in-law, Carlton Bruffy of Forest; six grandchildren, Brandon , Cameron Goodman and Isabella Pumagualle, Crystal Campbell (Josh), David Hunt, and E.J. Spitzer; four great-grandchildren, Elaina, Hanna, and Jeremiah Campbell, and Serenity Goff; nieces and nephews, Gene Goodman, Raymond Goodman, Allen Franklin, Teresa Mays (William), Connie Brooks (Charles), Amanda Bruffy (Matt), Chip Bruffy (Megan), Trevor Bruffy (Kathy), a beloved pet, Angel; three grand-dogs, Mollee, Baylee, and Koda, and a host of other relatives.
A funeral service will be held February 20, 2017, 11am at Campbell Avenue Baptist Church with the Rev. John Pickett officiating, burial will follow in Fort Hill Memorial Park with military honors by the American Legion Post 16. The family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m., on Sunday, February 19, 2017, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg.
