Charles, \"Chuck\" Worthington Stokes, 67, passed away peacefully June 14, 2013 surrounded by his family. He was born December 7, 1945 in Lynchburg, VA. He was the son of the late Mary Off Stokes and Richard Gaines Stokes.
He graduated from Lynchburg College after serving in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War of which he received numerous medals including the Bronze Star. He retired after 24 years with the City of Lynchburg as an appraiser and a previous career as a real estate broker.
Chuck is survived by his wife of 40 years, Janice S. Stokes, two daughters, Allison Ann Stokes of Lynchburg, VA, and Sara Stokes Hoffman married to Daniel Hoffman of Charlottesville, VA, with one grandson, Miles Alexander Hoffman, two brothers, Richard G. Stokes, Jr. of Bluemont, VA, Walter O. Stokes married to Ann of Greensboro, NC, one sister Mary Douglas Warren married to Fred (Skip) of Richmond, VA, brother-in-law Thomas Hilburn of Ormond Beach, FL, and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Ann Stokes Hilburn of Ormond Beach, FL. In keeping with the wishes of Chuck, there will be no funeral services, but there will be a private family memorial at a later date.
In honor of his love of nature, memorial donations may be made in his name to the Virginia Bluebird Society, 726 Williams St. Fredericksburg, VA 22401.
