Charlie Davis Doss, 69, of Forest lost his brief battle with cancer on July 30, 2018 at the VA Hospice Care Center in Salem.
He was born April 24, 1949 in Altavista to the late Charlie Edward and Sylvia Crouch Doss. He was also preceded in death by a son, Bryan Lee Doss. He was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church and a Vietnam veteran serving as a Corpsman in the U.S. Navy. He was twice a recipient of the Purple Heart.
He is survived by his wife, Peggy Doss of the residence; his son Charlie Davis Doss, II of Simpsonville, SC; his daughter Gillian Doss and her partner Scott Caddy and granddaughter Sydney Lee Caddy of Coeur D’Alene, ID; his brother Robert Doss and wife Dawn of Altavista; his canine “daughter” Greta; and his former wives Debbie Ramey and Marcia Seaman.
Charlie loved playing poker, collecting and shooting firearms, and listening to gospel music.
A celebration of Charlie’s life will be held at Shiloh United Methodist Church on Monday, August 6, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. with the Rev. Charles E. Johnson officiating. Per Charlie’s wishes, he will be cremated and his ashes interred at the National Cemetery in Danville, VA at a later date.
