Charlotte Leona King Karnes, 82, of Bedford, went to be with our heavenly Father on Thursday, February 4, 2016 at Bedford Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late John Bennett Karnes, Jr.
Born August 27, 1933 in Dante, VA she was the daughter of the late Delmar King and Beulah Thomas King. Charlotte had several jobs outside the home. Her greatest love was the farm she helped run, especially the apple orchard and her garden. She was a member of Sedalia Baptist Church.
She is preceded in death by her brothers, Delmar Junior and wife, Alice, Robert “Bobby” King and wife, Sybill.
Charlotte is survived by her son: John Byron Karnes and wife, Wendy of Bedford; daughters: Constance Karnes Finley and husband, Greg of Pickens, S.C., Cynthia Karnes Barlow and husband, Donald of Bedford, Donna Karnes Friske and husband, Todd of Bedford, Deanna Karnes Carwile; special friend, Jack Briggs of Amherst; brothers: Jimmy King and wife, Liz, Freddie King and wife, Connie; sister: Lois Prillaman; brothers in law: Jack Karnes and wife, Brenda, Edward Karnes; sister in law: Isabelle Belton and husband, Bob. twelve grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, numerous nephews, nieces, many family and friends especially longtime neighbors, the Hensley family and all the children who considered her as”Granny”
Funeral service will be held, Monday, February 8, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. in Tharp Funeral Home conducted by the Rev. Donnie Glass. Interment will follow in Longwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday, February 7, 2016 at the funeral home from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m
