Christine Harris Brown Lyon

Christine Harris Brown Lyon, 84, of Amherst, gained her wings on Tuesday, September 5, 2023.

Christine was born on February 20, 1939, a daughter of the late Sims Harris and Margaret Clarke Harris. Christine was a graduate of Nelson County Schools, a devoted homemaker, and was an active member of St Paul Baptist Church in Amherst where she served as an usher until her health began to decline.

She is survived by her children: Christine Atcherson of Lynchburg, James Brown of Amherst, Penny Sanford of Lynchburg, Cornell Brown of Amherst, April Callands (Jeff) of Madison Heights, and Vernon Lyon of Rustburg, two sisters: Bettie Johnson-Lewis of Hyattsville, MD, and Rosa Brown of Washington D.C., eleven grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two daughters Wendy and Lorraine, and one son John Brown, and one granddaughter Lutoria Brown.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, at Tharp Funeral Home Madison Heights., and all other times at the home of her daughter Christine at 656 Wilton Ave, Lynchburg.

A Celebration of Christine’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 9, 2023, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights, with the Rev. Sheldon Paige and Dr. M.D. Mays officiating. Interment will follow at Briarwood Memorials Gardens in Amherst.
