Christopher Lee Powell, 38, of Lynchburg died June 30, 2010 from injuries sustained in a motorcycle accident.
Chris was born May 16, 1972 in Lynchburg. He was the son of Diane Austin and her husband Robert of Lynchburg and Gary Powell and his wife Barbara of Madison Heights.
Chris was a talented mechanic. He inherited his love of machines and engines from his grandfather, \"Papa\" J.C. Winebarger, with whom he was especially close. However, the sound of a well-tuned engine was nothing compared to what he loved most—the privilege of being called \"Daddy\" by his two beautiful boys, Jason Christopher (\"J.C\" in honor of his great-grandfather) and Matthew Thomas of New Hampshire.
Also left to cherish the memory of his quick wit and charming grin are his grandparents J.C. and Joan Winebarger of Lynchburg, \"Nanny\" Edythe and Joe Mullagh of Evington and Gloria Powell of Lynchburg, siblings Jennifer Austin, Shelly Caudill and husband Steven of Lynchburg, Derrick Powell and Kevin Powell of Madison Heights and Tammy Coghill and husband James of Roseville, CA; nephew Tyler White of Lynchburg, special cousin and \"big brother\" Rick Brooks of Altavista ; former step-mother Jean Powell and numerous extended family members and friends.
Chris was predeceased by his grandmother Stella St. John and grandfather Russell Powell, step brother Bryan Kost, and cousin David Brooks, who was Chris\"™s kindred spirit.
A celebration of Chris\"™s life will be held Monday, July 5th at 11:00 am at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. The family will receive visitors following the service.
