Clara Etta Mahan 92, of Lynchburg, formerly of Valdosta, Georgia passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, May 7, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Wayne Cordell Mahan.

She is survived by her children Susan Morykon (Mike) of Lynchburg, Virginia, Judy Lewis (Robert) of Winooski, Vermont, Marilyn Shahan (Tom) of Gate, Oklahoma, Gary Smith (Deanna) of Leander, Texas, sister Mamie Mann of Van Buren, Arkansas, stepdaughter Connie Echalk (Ray) of Old Forge, Pennsylvania, and Stepson Wayne C. Mahan Jr. (Nancy) of Riverton, Wyoming. She also is survived by grandchildren Brian, Traci, Randy, Shelly, Curtis, Lisa, Julie, Brett, Daren and numerous great grandchildren.

Clara was born on February 2, 1922 in Josephine Texas. She worked as certified nursing assistant for many years and met her husband Wayne while caring for him as a patient at St. Mary’s Hospital in Enid, Oklahoma where she lived for many years. While living in Valdosta, Georgia she attended Bemis Road Baptist Church. She also enjoyed gardening, crocheting, and cooking for her husband and family.

The family would like to express a sincere thank you to Centra Hospice for their help and understanding, to Pastor Nathan Smith and the Heritage Baptist Church family for their love and support, and also to Angela Anderson and Janine Haynes for their loving care of Clara during her last days.

A graveside service for Clara will be held at 11am on Monday, May 12th at Virginia Memorial Park on Route 221 in Forest. Memorial contributions in Clara’s name to the Gideons International are encouraged.
