Clara Varner Henderson of Lynchburg, VA, 101 years old, passed away on January 13, 2025.
Clara was born to J. Earl Varner and Nora Tucker Varner in Denton, NC on March 24, 1923, where she was the youngest of seven children. Clara was the sole survivor. She was married to Clayton M. Henderson for 66 years until his death in 2010.
Surviving is her only child, a daughter Carole H. Bowen (David) of Lynchburg, a grandson David C. Bowen of South Boston, VA and two great-grandchildren, Miles Bowen and Sydney Bowen of Lynchburg.
She is also survived by an aunt Rebecca Henderson of Fuquay-Varina, NC; many nieces and nephews including: Bonnie Kay Rankin (Mark) of Irmo, SC; Woody Henderson (Sharon) of Fuquay-Varina, NC; Larry Lineberry (Sue) of Lynchburg; Kitty Lineberry Gallimore (Ralph) of Jacksonville, FL; Eddie Vuncannon (Pat) of Norwood, NC.
Clara spent her adult life in the Lynchburg area. She retired from Craddock Terry Shoe Corporation where she was a long-term employee. Her favorite pet was a cat named Blackie. Also, her favorite song was All My Exes Live in Texas. The family wishes to thank the staff at Heritage Green for her care during the past eight years. She was called Granny by everyone there. A special thanks is given to the caring nurses and staff of Gentle Shepherd Hospice. Her resting place will be with her husband Clayton at Virginia Memorial Park. Graveside service is planned for Friday January 31, 2025 at 11 am at Virginia Memorial Park.
