Clarence Swanson Almond, Jr.

December 30, 1948 — April 8, 2018

Clarence Swanson “Bea” Almond, Jr., 69, of Lynchburg, died Sunday, April 8, 2018. He was the husband of the late Sandra Horsley Almond.

Born Thursday, December 30, 1948 in Lynchburg, Clarence was the son of the late Clarence Swanson Almond, Sr. and the late Mary Irene Martin Almond.

In addition to his wife and parents, Clarence was preceded in death by his son, Kenneth Michael Almond; and his mother-in-law, Lucille Horsley, to whom he provided special care as a promise to his beloved late wife.

Clarence is survived by his son, Matthew Douglas Almond of Rustburg; a sister, Brenda A. Law of Reidsville, N.C.; a niece, Trina Renee Law of Reidsville, N.C.; a special friend, Judy Bray of Lynchburg; as well as numerous extended family members, friends, and neighbors.

Clarence was very proud of his service to our country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps during the Vietnam War where he was wounded and later awarded the Purple Heart. When others saw him wearing his USMC cap and would stop to thank him for his service, it meant the world to him.

The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow the service in Fort Hill Memorial Park with Military Honors provided by American Legion Post-16.
