Claude Douglas Unrue Jr., 85, of Rustburg, went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 3, 2011. He was the husband of Mary Shipp Unrue for 56 years.
Douglas was born December 8, 1925 in Lynch Station a son of the late Nathalie and the late Claude D. Unrue Sr. He served his country with the utmost honor in the U.S. Navy during World War II on the USS Turner, stationed at Pearl Harbor at the beginning of the war and carried his memories of his fallen comrade\"™s with him until his death. He was also a member of American Legion Post #141 and retired from C.H Mc Crickard Electrical Company, but was a farmer at heart. Doug, loved working in his garden.
Douglas was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters; Inez Harmon and Eva Bumgardner.
In addition to his wife, Douglas is survived by a sister Hilda Mc Crickard of Rustburg and many nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 pm., Sunday, November 6, 2011 at Tharp Funeral Home.
A Funeral service will be conducted at 2:00 pm., Monday, November 7, 2011 in Tharp Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park.
