Clay Jessup Ritter
Clay Jessup Ritter, 91, of Forest died Thursday February 28, 2013. He was the devoted husband of Betty Carlton Ritter.
Clay was born September 14, 1921 in Glenwood Springs, CO, the son of the late John Columbine Ritter and the late Helene Jessup Ritter. After graduating from Colorado State University, Clay honorably served his country during World War II. He served in the 2nd U.S. Infantry Division, 15th Field Artillery Battalion as a forward observer for which he received the Bronze Star. Clay continued to serve his country as a Marketing Specialist for the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 36 years. During retirement Clay volunteered with Meals-on-Wheels, the Bedford Ride and, most dear to him, The National D-Day Memorial because, "I owe it to those boys." He was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church and worshiped locally at St. Stephen\"™s.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Mary Lee Parks and her husband Forrest of Fayetteville, AR, and Linda Carroll and her husband Joe of Forest, five grandchildren: Jack Carroll of Baltimore, MD; Ann Carroll of Forest; Alex Ritter of Fayetteville, AR; Grace Carroll of Forest; and Katie Parks Smittle of Tulsa, OK, one sister Jane Hornsby and husband Jim of Loveland, CO.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister Mary Ellen Ritter and one granddaughter Lyndsay Parks.
A Memorial Service for Clay will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday March 8, 2013 at St. Stephen\"™s Episcopal Church with the Rev. Catharine Montgomery officiating. A reception will follow the service.
