Clayton Alva Proffitt, 84 of Madison Heights, died on Thursday, November 19, 2015, at Lynchburg Health & Rehab.
Born Friday, October 23, 1931, in Lynchburg, Clayton was a son of the late Richard Proffitt and the late Lillian Smith Proffitt.
In addition to his parents Clayton was preceded in death by eight siblings.
Clayton is survived by a brother, Dewey Proffitt, three sisters, Helen Robbins, Inez Tyree, and Evelyn Fitzgerald, a step-brother, Carrington Proffitt, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Clayton proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army. He had a strong belief in our military and our country. He was a kind and gentle person, who loved to help people. He treated everyone as if they were family. He was jack of all trades; there was nothing that he could not fix. Clayton was “a good ole country boy.”
The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home, Madison Heights. A celebration of Clayton’s life will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 23, 2015 at Tharp Funeral Home,
Madison Heights. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
