Cleo Frances Wood, 93, of Lynchburg died on April 18, 2012 at Lynchburg General Hospital. Born July 7, 1918 in Lynchburg Cleo was a daughter of the late Mary Lawhorne Wood and Ollie Adkerson Wood.
In addition to her parents Cleo was preceded in death by a sister, Margaret Wood Preas.
She leaves to cherish her memories, a niece; Nancy Preas Rhoads of Kennesaw, GA; a nephew; Harold (Hal) G. Preas and wife Eloise of Lynchburg, four great nieces; Caroline Preas Seimer and husband, Matt, of Holly Springs, NC, Anne Preas of Durham, NC, Sara Rhoads Rose and husband, Byron, of Apex, NC, Laura Rhoads Swann and husband Devin of Raleigh, NC, and two great, great nieces; Jolie Quinn and Luna Rose of Raleigh, NC.
Cleo graduated from E. C. Glass High School and retired from Craddock Terry Shoe Company with service over 25 years. During World War II, she and her sister, Margaret Wood Preas, would travel by train every Sunday night to Washington, DC, to work for the government for the war effort and return on Friday evenings. She was an active and long-time member of College Hill Baptist Church.
The family would like to thank the staff at Avante` for their services and care for Cleo during her many years there. They would also like to thank College Hill Baptist Church, Partners in Faith Class, the Excelsior Class, and the Flossie Wood Circle for their encouraging letters and cards during her stay at Avante`.
A graveside service will be held in the Mausoleum at Fort Hill Memorial Park, Friday, April 27, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Andrew Grose officiating.
