Clyde Bowman, 85, of Green Bay, VA passed away on Saturday, June 22, 2024, at home with family. He was born in Lunenburg County on April 12, 1939 to the late James H. Bowman and Elizabeth S. Bowman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 19 years, Elizabeth Irene Bowman; his first wife of 42 years, Edith Bowman, his siblings, Randolph Bowman; Cecil Bowman; Charlie Bowman; and Ethel Bowman Bryant, and his step daughter and her husband, Rita S. and David Berry.
After graduation, Clyde served three years in the United States Army, spending much of his tour in Germany. He was employed with AT&T as a Computer Technician and IT Specialist for 35 years before his retirement in 2000. In 2006, he became an author of a self-penned book, The Way It Was in the Forties.
In his earlier years of good health, Clyde was an avid boater and was passionate about everything that revolved around the “lake life”. He also had an interest in photography, taking pictures of the local farms and the ins and outs of farm life. He was additionally fascinated with trains and railroad history.
Clyde was a member of Burkeville Baptist Church and loved his church family immensely. Even though he was unable to attend services during the past few years, he so appreciated their visits, calls, cards, wonderful meals, and prayers.
He is survived by his daughters, Debra B. Herring (Gene) and Kathryn B. Rizk; stepson, Edward “Randy” Shorter, Jr. (Cheri); grandson, Lukas Spalin; step-grandsons, Edward “Trae” Shorter, III (Jessica), Ryan Shorter (Amanda), great grandchildren, Caydence; Lane; Cole; and Rylee; his siblings, George D. Bowman (Betty); Joe Marvin Bowman (Anne); Riley Bowman (Belinda); Edward Bowman (Charlotte); Henry Bowman; and Hazel B. Burley (Bobby), and numerous nieces and nephews.
Clyde was additional blessed with two devoted caregivers, Missy Francisco and Donna Bowman, both of whom he loved dearly.
The family will celebrate Clyde’s life with a memorial service at Burkeville Baptist Church in Burkeville VA on Friday, June 28, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, his wishes were that donations be made to Burkeville Baptist Church.
