Clyde Edmund King, 93, of Madison Heights, VA, died Wednesday, August 20, 2014. He was the loving husband of Sarah Davis Stephens King.
In addition to his parents, Clyde was preceded in death by his first wife, Marie Estella King, four brothers: Ernest, Harvey, Claude, and William Timothy King, Jr.; and a sister, Elsie Jeanette King.
Born Thursday, February 03, 1921 in Richmond, VA, Clyde was a son of the late William Timothy King and the late Martha Jennie Thomas King
In addition to his wife, Clyde is survived by two sons: Richard Clyde King, of Stafford, VA, and Bruce Edmund King, of Altavista; two daughters: Mary Diane Vernell, of Lynchburg, and Susan Louise Davis, of Lynchburg, a step daughter, Linda Lindsay and her husband, Jim, of Elon, a step son, Earl Edward Stephens, Jr. and his wife, Michelle, of Madison Heights, and nine grandchildren.
Clyde enjoyed life, especially spending time with his family. He loved to travel, especially to the beach. In his spare time he could be found reading, working puzzles, or watching movies. He proudly served our country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was retired from Griffin Pipe where he was Electrician for 28 years. A man of strong faith, he was a faithful member of Centenary United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday, August 24, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory. A graveside service will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, August 25, 2014 at Virginia Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Tom Bryant officiating. Military honors will be provided by American Legion Post-16.
