Clyde Eugene "Gene" Harris
January 1, 1939 — February 24, 2019
Gene passed away Sunday, February 24, 2019, surrounded by his family at Runk & Pratt. He was the husband of Carolyn McLaughlin Harris for 51 years. Gene was born on January 1, 1939 in Campbell County.
Gene was a son of the late Ellen D. Harris and Curtis Harris. He was a member of New Concord Presbyterian Church. Gene was retired from J. E. Jamerson and Sons. Gene was also a proud United States Veteran.
In addition to his parents, Gene was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Millner and a brother, Alton Harris.
In addition to his wife Gene is survived by two sons: Brian Harris (Anita), Tony Harris (Sharon) one daughter, Debbie Reed (John) granddaughter, Berklie Grace, four sisters Janie Cousins (Danny), Shirley Hiser, Nadine Pulliam (Wayne), Barbara Austin (Don), sister-in-law, Sharon McLaughlin; and his beloved dog “Tillie” and cat “Itsa”.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 1, 2019 at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 1:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m.
A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, 2019 at Altavista Memorial Park with Wayland Grubbs officiating. Military Honors provided by American Legions Post 16.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer Foundation, 1022 Commerce Street, Lynchburg, VA 24504.
Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
