Clyde Thomas Smith, 85, of Bedford, died Sunday, May 23, 2010 at Bedford County Nursing Home. He was born in Bedford County, February 3, 1925, a son of the late Harry Smith and Nora Lelia Feagans Smith.
Clyde was a member of Flint Hill Baptist Church where he served as Deacon. He was also a member of The Baptist Men\"™s Brotherhood and during WWII was Seaman First Class in the U.S. Navy. He was a retired employee of Rubatex Corp. Clyde loved hunting, fishing, and farming, but most of all he loved God and his family.
Five brothers and two sisters preceded him in death.
Clyde is survived by his wife, Martha S. Smith; a son, Thomas \"Tommy\" Smith and his wife Patricia Smith of Huddleston; two daughters, Karen L. Smith of Roanoke and Susan S Hite of Holly Springs, NC; two grandchildren, Ryan T. Smith and Joel B. Smith.
A Celebration of Clyde\"™s Life and Faith will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, May 25, 2010 at Tharp Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Gary Fowler officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with military honors. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory, Bedford.
