Our heavenly Father knew that the roads were getting rough, and the hills were becoming hard to climb. So, on Monday morning April 11, 2022 he called home Consuella Mariea Oulds Barbour, “Connie”, age 69, of Evington, VA. She leaves to mourn and cherish her memory her childhood sweetheart and husband of fifty-one years Vincent Leon Barbour; daughter Consuella Barbour and husband Dr. Michael Sinclair; son Vincent L Barbour II; grandchildren Gabriella Navas Barbour, Leah Navas, Nicholas Caudill, Isabella Barbour, and Hannah Grace Sinclair and sisters – Luwatha, Geraldine, Cecilia and Mary, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends.
She completed her elementary and secondary school in Campbell County. She was a graduate of Brookville High School and received her Bachelors of Science degree from Lynchburg College. Connie, as she was affectionately known, was a member of Mt. Evergreen Baptist Church and had been a member of the both the Young Adults Choir and Ladies Aide Club. She was a past board member of the Evington Volunteer Fire Department where she served as Treasurer. Connie’s talents were many. She was a seamstress, teaching both her children how to sew; an accomplished baker of sweets and pies; a businesswoman and mentor to many; and a beloved wife, mother, sister, auntie, grandmother, community volunteer and friend who loved to entertain. She enjoyed cruising with her husband and family throughout the Caribbean. Connie collected many things, none more loved by her than her crystal collection. She loved flowers and gardening and kept it going as long as she could.
A community sparkplug, Connie was involved in many neighborhood initiatives, including affordable housing and safe drinking water for all. She was an avid political activist, registering voters and working the polls. When not serving the community, she was sharing her talents teaching. She was employed at Tomahawk Elementary school where she taught 2nd grade. At the Central Virginia Community College, she taught cell phone technology. She also was employed by Hills and JC Penney Department stores, Campbell County Social Services, and General Electric.
