Curtis Taylor, Jr.

Curtis “Curt” Rosvil Taylor Jr., 98, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, March 12, 2019 at Heartland Rehabilitation. Curt was born in Lynn, Mass. on October 22, 1920 to the late Curtis Rosvil Taylor Sr. and Olive Fern Collins Taylor.
Curt was preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his five children, Eleanor Pedrick Taylor, and his second wife, Mary Weigand Taylor; daughter, Candace Taylor, and beloved grandson, Freddie Baldwin; sisters, Mary Francis Taylor, Arlene Taylor Hebert (Bill), Maude Fourtnier (Jim), Betty Johnston; one brother, Vaughn Taylor, and brother-in-law, Austin Streeter.
Left to cherish his memory are: sister, Gloria Streeter of Saugus, Mass.; brother-in-law, Bob Johnston of Peabody, Mass., and sister-in-law, Jan Taylor of Brunswick, Maine. He is survived by four loving daughters, Diane Taylor Baldwin, Marcia Taylor, Wendy Taylor Pugh (Anthony), and Eleanor Jane Taylor. Curt was known to many that loved him as “Bumpa”, especially by his granddaughters and great-grandsons who will miss him dearly; granddaughters, Michele Taylor DeWalt (Derrick), Jessica Wayne Francis (Terry), Kristen Pugh, and Caitlin Pugh; great-grandsons, Logan, Owen, and Adam DeWalt and many nieces and nephews.
Curt graduated from Bentley College and with a degree in Accounting from Northeastern University, both in Boston, Mass. He served in the United States Navy in the South Pacific during WWII. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason and a Shriner. Curt had a long career with General Electric that moved his family from Lynn, Mass. to Lynchburg, Va., where his family still resides today. Curt was a long term member of Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday school and held many titles as Deacon, Elder and Elder Emeritus. He was also involved in participating in the Quaker Meeting House. Curt further strengthened his faith through “Walk with Emmaus”. He also spent many Tuesday afternoons tutoring elementary school kids at Perrymont Elementary.
The family would like to express their sincerest thanks to Generation Solutions for the care and support that allowed Curt to stay in his home; especially Christine, Amber, and Michelle for their love and care.
A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. on Monday, March 18, 2019 at Quaker Memorial Presbyterian Church with visitation to directly follow. A family graveside service will occur at a later time in Massachusetts.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Shriners Hospitals for Children, St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or a charity of your choice.
