Cyril G. “Sonny†Cousart, 89, of Lynchburg, passed away Saturday, May 24, 2014 with his family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Edna Williams “Geri†Cousart.
Sonny was born on September 29, 1924 in Central Fall, RI, the son of the late Cyril Francis Cousart and the late Adeline Morris Cousart. He was a graduate of Bedford High School and a retired employee of Rubatex. In addition to being a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, Sonny coached Little League Football for Bedford Recreation Department for 34 years. Sonny served in the U.S. Army Air Force during WWII where he flew 37 combat missions as a radio operator. He was a member of St. Thomas More Catholic Church and was a 3rd and 4th Degree Knights of Columbus.
In addition to his wife, Sonny is survived by his son, John C. “J.C.†Cousart and wife, Mary Lou of Bedford; his step-daughters, Bev Anthony of Richmond, Cindy Jaeger and husband, Robin of Lynchburg, Mary Shearer and husband, Lee of Lynchburg, and Lisa Shores and husband, Jerry of Forest; fourteen grandchildren, Stacie Cousart, Cristi Cousart, Shaina Toney and husband, Tripp, Lewis Anthony, Matthew Anthony, Brandon Ryan and wife, Karen, Drew Jaeger, Devin Jaeger, Justin Shearer and wife, Anna, Lauren Harkness and husband, Eric, Daniel Shearer, Tayler Johnson and husband, Ricky, Ethan Shores and Logan Shores; and six great-grandchildren with a seventh expected in July.
A funeral mass will be conducted at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 at St. Thomas More Catholic Church with Msgr. Michael McCarron officiating. The family will receive friends at a reception immediately following the mass.
