Dan Andrew Russell, age 63, of Bedford, Virginia, set off for his final adventure on May 2, 2025. He was the beloved son of the late Gerald Leroy Russell and Shirley Sue Ames Russell.
Dan Russell, born December 8th, 1961, was a craftsman, a rebel, and a man who lived life by his own rules. Whether he was restoring antique campers, working on his dune buggy, or showing off his fishpond, Dan found joy in building. He was a jack of all trades, never one to follow the crowd, and always made his own path in life.
Dan had a deep love for the Outer Banks, with Ocracoke being his peace and paradise. He loved the sand, the sun, the slow pace, and the good vibes. Never could he pass up a good story and great conversation, the kind of guy you could talk to for hours. He was a very cool dude, always looking at the world from his own unique perspective, and one that you could never forget.
More than anything, Dan was a great father. He showed his girls how to truly live life, guiding and teaching along the way. Whether it was a lesson in tools, music, or cars, Dan was always there. His legacy isn’t just in the things he built, but in the people he loved and the wisdom he passed along to others.
Dan is survived by his children, Heather Vickers, and husband, Josh, Jessica Russell, Stephanie Swain, and husband David; grandchildren, Trinity Vickers, Jase Vickers, Pamela Workman, Alice Swain, and Andrew Swain; siblings, Lisa Turner, and husband, Adam and Dennis Russell, and wife, Dianah; sister-in-law Tammy Russell, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
