Daniel Andrew Stanek

Daniel Andrew Stanek, 56, of Roanoke, Va. passed away unexpectedly on February 9, 2016. Born on June 8, 1959 in Lynchburg, Va., son of the late Larry and Donne Stanek. He is survived by his loving wife, Connie Smith Stanek of Roanoke, Va., and his devoted daughter, Stacie Anderson (Kevin) of Bedford, grandson and best friend Elijah Cole Anderson, and sister-in-law Tracy Smith. He was loved by his surviving brothers Mark (Betsy), Greg (Estella), John, and Jamie (Shannon). Danny was an adoring uncle to Caroline, Laurie, Callie, Rom, Greg Jr., Kayla, Lindsay, Ellie, and Robbie Stanek. He was also uncle to Greg (Gail), Ben and Scott (Zana) Smith.

Danny graduated from EC Glass High School and Va.. Tech. A true southern gentleman and a scholar, he worked for Coleman Adams Construction for over 20 years. Danny spent many childhood years in the Boy Scouts hiking the Appalachian Trail. He was an avid racquetball player, and a loyal member of the Hokie Nation. Danny was “Papa D” to his Eli and savored time with his grandson. He enjoyed weekends at Aunt Freddie and Uncle Donald’s beach home, working crossword and suduko puzzles. Danny’s favorite game shows were Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy. (He frequently won.)

A memorial service will be held at Tharp Funeral Service on Breezewood Ave in Lynchburg, Va.. at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 13, 2016. Visitation will be immediately prior to the ceremony from 12:30 to 2:00 p.m. Family will also receive visitors at the home of Karen Cadieux Watson, 117 Village Road, Lynchburg, Va. from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Friday, February 12, 2016.
