Danny Dariel Addair, 71, of Moneta, Va. passed away on Wednesday, March 20, 2019. He was the loving husband of Donna Gail Yeatts Addair for 30 years.
Born Friday, July 11, 1947 in Welch, West Virginia, Danny was a son of the late Noah McKinley Addair and the late Bessie Ruth Addair.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Jack Addair and a sister, Mary Phillips.
In addition to his wife, Danny is survived by his sons, Mac Addair and his wife, Ann of Evington, VA and Buddy Addair and his wife, Sarah of Big Island, VA; a daughter, Louraine Stegall of Lynchburg, VA; a stepson, Scott Whittaker and his wife, Angel of Waxhaw, NC; a stepdaughter, Susan Clonch and her husband Matt of Eagle Rock, VA; eleven grandchildren: Alden, Ashton, and Tyler Addair; Talya Hampton and husband Andrew; Addison Addair; Cohl and Connor Stegall; Matthew, Cody and Bethany Whittaker; and Evie Clonch; also three great grandchildren: Cooper and Brooks Hampton and Logan Whittaker; two brothers, Roger Addair and his wife Patsy of Huddleston, VA and Bill Addair and his wife Bonnie of Forest, VA; a sister, Dot Druke of Williamsville, Vermont and many special and loved nieces and nephews.
Danny served his country proudly as a member of the United States Army Military Police during the Vietnam War. He worked at the Lynchburg Foundry, Lynchburg, VA; Radford Foundry in Radford, VA; and Grinnell Foundry in Statesboro, GA before starting his own business.
He was a member of Heritage Baptist Church where he served as a greeter and an usher. He enjoyed cooking for the Young at Heart group at Heritage Baptist for many years. He was a member of the Smith Mountain Lake Ruritan Club. Danny loved to cook and was always a gracious host to many friends and family. Gardening, yard work, fishing, and building things with his hands – from garden ornaments to barns – were all things that he enjoyed. His grandchildren brought him great joy and they will always remember their “PaPa’s Country Store” candy closet.
The family will receive friends on Friday, March 22, 2019 from 5:00-7:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg. A celebration of Danny’s life will be conducted at Heritage Baptist Church on Saturday, March 23, 2019 at 11:00 a.m. with Dr. Gerald Kroll officiating. Interment will follow in Greenfield Baptist Church Cemetery, Gretna, Va. Military Honors will be provided by American Legion Post 16.
