Darrell Craig Hamlett, 54, of Lynchburg, passed away unexpectedly at home, Tuesday, October 4, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Kathy Hamlett.
Darrell was born in Lynchburg, on April 4, 1962. He was a son to Earnest E. Hamlett and Linda Brown Hamlett. He was a graduate of Brookville High School, class of 1980. He began his career as a fire fighter at the age of 16 volunteering. It was his commitment over the next 20 years that led him to the position of Captain of the Lynchburg Fire Department, Station 5; he was also a longtime employee of Benchmark Systems.
In addition to his wife, and parents, Darrell is survived by his two loving children, Craig and Lacy Hamlett; his sisters, Debra Staton (Barry) and Mandy Hamlett; a brother, Rodney Hamlett (Tammy); father and mother in-law, Jack and Becky Lacy; brother-in-law, David Cyrus (Gwen); sister-in-law, Vickie Martin (Butch), a host of nieces and nephews, and his loyal companion Bo. Preceding Darrell in death were his grandparents Roger and Copeland Hamlett and Frank and Mary Brown.
A celebration of Darrell’s life will be held at 1 p.m. on Monday, October 10, 2016, at Heritage Baptist Church, 219 Breezewood Drive, with Chaplain Rick Edwards officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park. Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2016, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg from 2 to 4 p.m.
