David Anthony Jefferson, Sr., 72, of Lynchburg, Va., departed this life on Thursday, November 11, 2021.

Born December 13, 1948 in Lynchburg, Va., David was a son of the late Elijah Holmes Jefferson and the late Inez Carter Jefferson. He was also proceeded in death by his brother James N. Jefferson and sister-in-law Joan Poole.

David is survived by his wife, Valeria, his son David Jefferson, Jr. and stepson Gary Bell; brother, Salvatore “Sal” Jefferson, and his wife, Sharon; sisters-in-law Dorothy Cook, and her husband Joseph, and Carolyn Johnson and friend Dessa Johnson; nephews Salvatore “Butch” Jefferson Jr., Alfred Dean, Jr., French Poole III, Herbert Lee Bell and Antoine Bell; nieces, Elizabeth “Libby” Jefferson, Natasha Poole and Brittany Dean; great nephews, Trey and Jaxon Jefferson and Jawan Noell; great niece Dominique Noell; close cousins Patricia, Kenny and Loretta Mills, and family friend Brenda Freeman along with other relatives and friends.

David proudly served our country as a member of the U.S. Army, and enjoyed traveling and watching car races. He professed faith in Christ at an early age at Forest Level Baptist Church. Later in life, he attended and enjoyed the fellowship of Tree of Life Ministries. David was a bus driver for Bedford Country Public Schools and The City of Lynchburg before working at and retiring from the United States Postal Service.

A homegoing service will be conducted at 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 17, 2021 at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory with Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM prior to the service with interment on Thursday, November 18 at Culpeper National Cemetery at 11:00 AM.

The family would like to thank Dr. Patel, Lynchburg Oncology and Centra Lynchburg General Hospital, along with Roberta Reeves, friends and family for their many acts of kindness.
