David Benjamin Wallace

January 23, 1932 — February 4, 2016

David Benjamin Wallace, 84, of Lynchburg, passed away peacefully Thursday, February 4, 2016. He was born in Duluth, Minnesota, January 23, 1932, a son of the late Alan Lockhart Wallace and Esther Henby Wallace. He was also preceded in death by a son David Benjamin Wallace Jr., who passed away January 28, 2015. David graduated from New Trier High School in 1949. He was a graduate of Hamilton College in 1953, Clinton, NY, and Cornell University in 1959 where he received his MBA.

He was an officer in the U S Navy and was first stationed on a Destroyer and served two years in Key West, FL.

After moving to Lynchburg, he worked at Old Dominion Box Company for two years then joined the Chapstick Company where he was a Vice President and worked for 29 years.

He was a member of First Presbyterian Church where he enjoyed singing in the choir.

He volunteered his time in many local organizations including the Kiwanis Club where he served as President. He was active in the Speech and Hearing Center. He was a Civil War enthusiast, loved genealogy, a world traveler, and a regular attender of Civil War Round Table. He loved his Redskins, Chicago Cubs, and UVA basketball.

He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Diana; son, William Wallace and fiancée Heidi Truong of Fredericksburg; daughter and son-in-law, Katharine and Mark Wheeler, of Greenville, S.C.; five grandchildren, Dylan Wallace, of Bridgewater, Mass., Kyle Wallace Wheeler, Lilian Kathryn Wheeler, and Jack Wallace Wheeler all of Greenville, S.C., also Hailey Nguyen, of Fredericksburg; brother and sister-in-law, Stuart and Jennie Wallace of Raleigh, N.C.

A celebration of life service will be held at Tharp Funeral Home 2 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2016 with The Rev. Dr. James J.H. Price and The Rev. Dr. Fred Holbrook officiating.

Following the service, a light reception with the family will be held in the Commonwealth Room at Tharp Funeral Home.

Interment will follow at a later date in the Kenesico Cemetery in Valhalla, N.Y.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
