Randy Burns

Randy was born July 4, 1952, to David and Joyce Burns of Lynchburg, Virginia.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Lynda, daughter, Monica Thompson of Youngsville, North Carolina, granddaughter, Abbie (Nico) Thompson also of Youngsville, North Carolina, his brother, Kent Burns and wife Edith of Amherst, Virginia, two very special nieces, Kelly Stanley, Hannah Raczkowski and a goddaughter, Lindsay Argo.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dave and Joyce Burns, a godson, Michael Ramey, and son-in-law, Greg Thompson.

He retired from Barry-Wehmiller in 2017, where he worked as a mechanical engineer. He was well loved by everyone and always saw the good in those around him. He will be missed so very much. Randy loved to read and go hiking and camping. Going to NASCAR races was one of his enjoyments of life. His favorite place to vacation was Duck in Nags Head, NC where he could surf fish all day.

Randy passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, surrounded by family and friends, at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital after a seven-year battle with cancer. He never gave up and fought until the end.

The family would like to thank UVA Medical Center for the excellent care that was taken with Randy over the years. They would also like to thank the ICU team of Centra for their care during his stay.

Please join us at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, on Wednesday, May 29, 2024, for services at 11:00 am, with a visitation at 10:00 am, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Forest Fire Department in memory of Randy.
