David “Dave” Ray Overstreet

David \"Dave\" Ray Overstreet, 72, of Bedford, died at his residence on October 8, 2011.

David was born August 5, 1939 in Bedford County, a son of the late Woody Overstreet, Sr. and Virginia Leftwich Overstreet.

As a teenager, he was baptized by Mentow Baptist Church.  Following graduation from Huddleston High School he enrolled in the ROTC at VPI. With a strong faith and pride in his country he then joined the US Navy.  He had the opportunity to live in several states and visit some thirty countries and later he returned home to Bedford. Dave was retired from WSET where he worked as a broadcasting engineer. In his spare time he enjoyed being on the computer or riding his motorcycle. At his request, his remains have been donated to medical science

He is survived by a brother; Woodie S. Overstreet Jr. and his wife Grace of Huddleston   three sisters; Jeannette O. Updike of Bedford, Ester O. Woodford and her husband John of Huddleston and Becky O. Joyce and her husband Jim of Mesa, AZ, numerous nieces and nephews, great nieces and great nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, October 11, 2011 at 6:30 p.m. in the chapel at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg, VA. The family will receive friends following the service.
