David “Peck” Tanner

David Lawrence (Peck) Tanner, 77, of Rustburg, VA passed away Saturday, October 1, at the UVA Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the son of the late William Thomas and Lizzie Smith Tanner.  David was twice married and preceded in death by his wives, Nellie Dawson Tanner and Mary Maxey Tanner.  He was a faithful member of New Chapel Baptist Church and a retired employee of Babcock and Wilcox.

He is survived by six sisters:  Eunice Bailey, Alice (Morris) Bailey, Barbara (Stephen) Farmer, all of Rustburg; Rachel (Kenneth) Dawson at the Summit; Catherine Younger and Marie (Mac) Hodge of Winston-Salem, NC; two brothers; Lester (Jean) Tanner and Louis (Patricia) Tanner of Lynchburg, a sister-in-law, Delia D. Tanner of Gladys, many nieces and nephews and his wonderful and caring neighbors, Ernie and Jan Bender.  Five brothers and four sisters preceded him in death.

 

A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 6, 2011, at 2:00 p.m. at New Chapel Baptist Church with the burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be at the church one hour prior to the service.

 

Memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
