David Ray Douthat
David Ray Douthat, 56, of Wirtz, died Wednesday, July 7, 2010 at his residence. Born in Roanoke, VA on May 5, 1954 a son of Roger B. Douthat, Sr., and the late Mary Elizabeth Davis Douthat. David served his country in the United States Marine Corp. He was a kind-hearted gentleman who loved playing chess, gardening, spending time with his family and friends and writing poetry.
David is survived by his loving wife, Mary Bramblitt Sink Douthat; two sons, Christopher and Michael; two sisters, Donna Powell and Sharon Garcia; one brother, Roger B. Douthat, Jr.; father and mother-in-law, Jim and Billie Sink; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Red Cross, 122 E. Main Street, Suite 212, Bedford, VA 24523.
A memorial service will be conducted at 2:00 pm, Saturday, July 10, 2010, at Tharp Funeral Chapel, Bedford. The family will receive friend\"™s two hours prior to the service. Arrangements by Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Smith Mountain Lake, (540) 721-9375.
