David Eugene Wingfield, 77, of Lynchburg, VA, passed away on Thursday, October 10, 2024. He was the loving husband of the late Carolyn Johnson Wingfield and a cherished father, Poppy, and friend.
David was born Thursday, May 22, 1947, in Lynchburg, VA, a son of the late David Edgar Wingfield and Frances Nan Thaxton Wingfield. He honorably served his country as a Sergeant in the US Army, and his community, as a Captain in the Lynchburg Fire Department. An avid bridge player, he was a member of The American Contract Bridge League, earning Life Master honors. He and his late wife were the past owners of Jumbo Restaurant.
He is survived by his children: David Anthony Wingfield of Forest, Melissa Gentry and husband Christopher of Forest, and Brian Wingfield and wife Candace of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren: Joshua Wingfield, Mary Charlotte Dickerson and husband Dakota, Carson Wingfield, Amber Nowakowski and husband Chad, Jonathan Wingfield, Caroline Wingfield, Caleb Wingfield, Haley Nipper, Dylan Nipper, and Braden Dodson; great-grandchild: Angel Dickerson; and siblings: Edgar Wingfield and wife Mildred, Michael Wingfield, Mary Frances Whorley, and Vickie Waller.
In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Wayne Wingfield, and daughter-in-law, Catherine Stillman Wingfield.
The family will receive friends from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday, October 13, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.
