Deacon Rick M. Cobbs went home to be with the Lord on Friday, May 6, 2022, at Lynchburg General Hospital surrounded by the light of his life, his daughter, Tmerik Anderson and his daughter-in-law Raveen Anderson.
He was born March 11, 1968 to Annie M. Cobbs and James “Squeaky” Harvey, Sr. He was a graduate of Heritage High School Class of 1986 and he left for service in the United States Army 2 days after graduation. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother Annie M. Cobbs; his father James “Squeaky” Harvey, Sr.; his brother James “Squeaky” Harvey, Jr., and his grandmother Henrietta Slaughter.
Deacon Cobbs, affectionately known as Coach Rick is survived by his one and only daughter, his “Babygirl”, Tmerik Anderson (Raveen); his one and only nephew – Sir James “Chris” Harvey (Mechelle); two great nieces – Riley Harvey and Rhyan Harvey; a great nephew – Sir’Micah Harvey and another great nephew Sir’Mylo Harvey expected to arrive August 2022.
He is also survived by his aunts – Ardella “Della” Jones and Joyce “Dee Dee” Cobbs; his uncles – John “Booney” Cobbs (Myra) and Charles “Buncey” Slaughter; his cousins – Cheryl Mccoy, Bryant Cobbs, Brandon Cobbs, Yvetta “Shae” Cobbs, Colisha Cobbs, Jared Cobbs (Hilliare) and Trevor Scott.
He was formerly married to Tamra Guy Cobbs for 28 years. Rick has been an employee of The Supply Room Company for the last 25 years. He was also employed with Lynchburg City Schools, Randolph College, The Virginian Hotel, Mark Arthur, PC and Emerald Limousine Service. Rick loved sports and mentoring kids and he combined those 2 passions together at LCS throughout the years by coaching – Dunbar Girls Basketball, Dunbar Track & Field, Dunbar Cross Country, Dunbar Girls Tennis, EC Glass JV Girls Basketball, Heritage Varsity Girls Tennis, and Lynchburg Parks & Recreation Boys Basketball.
His daughter has requested that there be no home visits. Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory. The funeral will be held Friday, May 13, 2022, at 3 p.m. at The Chapel Grove Baptist Church, Evington, VA, with Pastor Russell E. Lee officiating. MASKS ARE REQUIRED.
