Dean Patrick Cumbo
June 4, 1968 — June 20, 2022
Dean Patrick Cumbo, of Lynchburg, formerly of Danville, age 54, passed away at his residence and transitioned to his heavenly home on Monday, June 20, 2022, after a 10-month courageous battle with cancer.
He was born on June 4, 1968, in Danville, to Marie C. Cumbo and the late David P. Cumbo Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Lori Adkins Cumbo; sons, Dylan and Luke Cumbo, of Lynchburg; brother, Dave Cumbo and wife, Marsha, of Danville; nephew, Jay Cumbo and wife, Jessica; niece, Olivia Cumbo and fiance, Chris Weir; father-and-mother-in-law, Donald and Judy Adkins of Danville; sister-in-law, Sharon Spain, daughter, Mary Gail; brother-in-law, William Adkins and wife, Michelle, children, Kathleen and Samuel; grandparents, the late Lawson and Martha Compton and Carl and Mildred Cumbo, and numerous cousins, uncles, aunts and friends.
Dean was a graduate of George Washington High School in Danville, attended Emory and Henry College where he played for the Emory and Henry Football Team; received a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Accounting from Liberty University and Masters of Business Administration degree from the University of Lynchburg. He was a Certified Quality Auditor and Lean Six Sigma Black Belt.
He served in the U.S. Army 101st Airborne Division Screaming Eagles (Air Assault) in Fort Campbell Kentucky and the National Guard, stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground, after 9/11.
He was previously employed in law enforcement with the Pittsylvania County Sheriff’s Office as a Deputy Sheriff and Dare Instructor and BWXT, Lynchburg in Security and as a Systems Analyst. Before his decline in health he was working for Four Rivers Nuclear Partnership as a System Analyst in Paducah, Kentucky.
He was former Chairman of the Campbell County GOP, former Sunburst District representative on the Campbell County Planning Commission, and a former board member of the Brookville Soccer Club.
He was a longtime Miami Dolphins fan and loved Star Wars. He was an active member of Timberlake United Methodist Church.
A Celebration service for Dean’s home going will be held at Timberlake United Methodist Church, 21649 Timberlake Rd., Lynchburg, Va., at 5 p.m., Sunday, June 26, 2022, visitation and a reception will follow. Click here to view the livestream of Dean’s Celebration of Life
