Deanna King of Long Island, Va. died the afternoon of February 23, 2012, peacefully in her sleep. She had been going through cancer treatment for a year and a half and when a brain tumor returned this past December, she decided to accept her fate and stopped treatment. Her strong will and independent spirit carried her through a difficult time with much love and even humor.
She matriculated at Penn State University as a Phsyc Major for 2 ½ years before leaving to start a family. With her oldest son going into his second year at Sayracuse University and younger son starting at Penn State she enrolled in Mansfield University, and two years later received her Bachelor of Education with a 4.0 GPA eventually obtaining a Master\"™s equivalency while teaching for Athens Area Schools, PA. Upon retirement she built a home of her own design in Southern VA where there was \"better weather and more time\" for her passion: growing flowers.
Her house and gardens were a great source of pride and enjoyment, as well as sharing them with her family.
She is survived by her sons: Dr. Richard C. King and Dr. Adam King ; her four grandchildren: Julie, Torie,, Ayla and Avery, her two dogs, two cats and her former husband, Richard C. King.
