Delaware Hicks

Delaware Staffon Hicks departed his life on October 18, 2024, at Lynchburg General Hospital. He was born on October 4, 1960, to Phyllis Jean Thomas and the late Delaware Augustus Hicks. He was a graduate of E.C. Glass High School in 1979. Delaware worked as an Auto Mechanic for many years at Touch of Class Car Care until his health failed. He was the “Community Mechanic” that provided service from his heart to everyone. He truly enjoyed what he did.

Delaware was preceded in death by his Grandparents Ralph and Mandy Spinner, the late James P. Thomas (Stepfather) and Belinda Gail Thomas (Sister).

Delaware (Staffon) gave his life to Christ and joined New Dearington Baptist Church at an early age.

He leaves to cherish his memory his mother Phyllis Jean Thomas, two sisters Sharon Beaden (Cornelius), LaJuan Thomas, two daughters Katonjua Parham (Arthur) and Stephaine Ford (Lorenzo), one son Phillip Ford; Stepchildren; Melanie Elliotte, Kermit Elliotte, Darcell Elliotte, Jessica Elliotte, Natasha Elliotte, two uncles, Ralph Spinner Jr. and Clyde Hicks, Aunts, Sarah Williams, Yvonne Anderson (James), Michele West, Helen Roberson, Laverne Thomas, Milford Thomas, and Joan Gillespie, six Grandchildren, one Great Grandchild, six nieces and nephews, and a host of cousins, relatives, and friends. A devoted niece (Tramell Cary) and a special friend (Eleanor Harris), and extended family.

We honor, respect and remember a good man who touched and enriched all our lives in so many different ways. We’ll never forget his dedication to his family and the community.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg.

A Celebration of Delaware’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, October 26, 2024, in the chapel of Tharp Funeral Home with the Rev. Dixon and the Rev. White officiating. Interment will follow at Baptist Cemetery.
