Delma Laverne Gilbert Turpin

Delma Laverne Gilbert Turpin, 86, of Big Island went to be with our Lord Saturday December 15, 2012. She was the loving wife of the late George Penn Turpin, Jr.

Delma was born December 31, 1925 a daughter of the late Ramey Grayson Gilbert and the late Bessie White Gilbert. Delma was a retired Deputy Clerk for the U.S. District Court/Lynchburg Division. She was a member of Hunting Creek Baptist Church.

She is survived by her niece: Nancy Blankenship of Lynchburg, two nephews; Fredrick C. Burks of Phoenix, AZ. and Barney L. Burks, his wife, Debbie of Virginia Beach, VA.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a sister Clarice H. Gilbert, and a brother C. Ercell Gilbert.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Tuesday, December 18, 2012 at Tharp Funeral Home Lynchburg. A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm Wednesday, December 19, 2012 in Hunting Creek Baptist Church Cemetery with the Rev. Carey Snelling officiating.
