Dennis William Self 54, of Lynchburg, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Born August 30, 1960 in Lynchburg; he was the son of the late James Irvin Self, Sr. and the late Florence Mann Self and was also preceded in death by one brother, James Irvin Self Jr.; five brothers-in-law, William Wade, Ed Weiss, Doug Pribble, Jr., Lambert and Ray Salyer Jr.; and one nephew Bob Wade.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Dorrie Burley Self; one daughter, Terra Jaimes Self; one son Dane Mann Self; one brother, Carl Self and wife, Joyce of Madison Heights; five sisters, Patricia Wade of Campbell County, Linda Weiss of Roanoke, Carol Pribble of Rustburg, Deane Viar and husband, Tony of Forest, and Brenda Lambert of Campbell County; brothers-in-law, Doug Burley, Donald Burley, Duane Burley; nieces and nephews, Rhonda Dudley, Wendy Self, Wanda Cofflin, Anita Barb, Sheryl Snuffer, Marty Pribble, James Pribble, Lisa Leger, Brad Viar, Brian Viar, Jamie Mason, Josh Lambert, Jennifer Meade; and two grandchildren, Kaylynn and KJ.
As an employee of RR Donnelley for 35 years, Dennis leaves behind a countless list of friends/coworkers and will be greatly missed.
Dennis shared his talent and musicianship locally over the past 40 years as a drummer/sound engineer. Dennis was selfless in supporting others musically and will forever be remembered for his dedication and effort.
The family would like to express their deep gratitude to the entire Centra Neurological Critical Care Unit for their care of Dennis and compassion extended to his family and friends.
A memorial service will be conducted at 3:00 p.m., Saturday, October 4, 2014 at Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory with the Rev. William Wilson and Pastor Mike Dodson officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home for one hour prior to the service, beginning at 2:00 p.m. The family is also accepting visitors at the Lynchburg residence.
