Denny Lewis Fringer, Jr., 91, of Lynchburg, VA, died peacefully in his home, surrounded by his family, on Saturday, May 9, 2015. He was the husband of the late Jean Paul Fringer for 64 years, who preceded him in death on September 6, 2014.
Denny was born on Saturday, September 8, 1923, in Jarrettsville, Maryland and was a son of the late Reverend Denny Lewis Fringer, Sr. and the late Mary Lewis Silvey. His stepmother was the late Thelma Odeal Painter.
Denny is survived by his children: Bob Fringer and wife Pam, Nancy Saunders and husband Brian, Susan Boss and husband Larry, and Mary Dellinger and husband Ed; his grandchildren: Kristin Saunders, Shannon Noe and husband Nick, Erin Saunders, Katie Boss, Libby Boss, and Cameron Dellinger; and his great-grandson, Graham Noe.
In addition to his parents, Denny was preceded in death by his brother, Robert Jackson Fringer and his sister, Mary Lee Fringer Wade.
Denny was a graduate of Luray High School in Luray, Virginia. He attended Lynchburg College and was a graduate of Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia. Denny and Jean met and married in Lynchburg. After proudly serving his country in both World War II and the Korean War, Denny began a long term career with Mead Paperboard Products, which later became Rock-Tenn Co. Denny’s career began in sales and throughout his career he was located in Lynchburg, Virginia, Atlanta, Georgia and Cincinnati, Ohio. Denny and his family returned to Lynchburg in 1972, where he was subsequently promoted to Vice President of Sales and Marketing. He retired from Rock-Tenn in 1996. Denny was an active member of the Kiwanis Club and the Elks Lodge. He was a long time member of Peakland United Methodist Church.
Denny inspired many with his commitment to a healthy lifestyle, which included a daily running program. For many years, Denny participated in the annual Virginia Ten Miler race and placed high in his age category. In his later years, Denny, along with his beloved dogs Pepper and then Matilda, walked and jogged every day until age 90.
The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m.to 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday May 13, 2015, at Peakland United Methodist Church. A celebration of Denny’s life will follow at 2:00 p.m. with Rev. Dr. John Vest officiating. Interment will follow in Spring Hill Cemetery.
