Dewitt T. “Buddy” Lefew, Jr.

Dewitt “Buddy” T. LeFew, Jr., age 86, of Lynchburg, VA passed away peacefully on November 13, 2021. He was born on May 11, 1935 in Lynchburg, VA, the son of the late Dewitt T. LeFew, Sr., and Vivian Brooks LeFew. He is preceded in death by his parents, a sister and brother-in-law,  Gloria and Franklin Freda, and two cousins raised by his mother, George and Ray Brooks. Buddy is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Barbara Smith LeFew, two sons, Dewitt “Tad” LeFew, III (Pam), Kevin LeFew (Ericka), his grandchildren, Ashley Falwell (Matt), Dewitt “Witt” LeFew, IV (Lauren), Claire LeFew, Sam LeFew, Hope LeFew, Sophie LeFew, Maddie LeFew, JoJo Villa and Carter Villa, three great grandchildren, Charlie Falwell, Abigail LeFew, and Dewitt “Finn” LeFew, V, and former daughter-in-law, Jane LeFew.

Buddy deeply loved and was beloved by his family. He was a devoted man of faith. Buddy attended Virginia Tech, where he played trombone with the Highty Tighties, and Lynchburg College. After serving six years in the Army National Guard, including six months on active duty, Buddy was honorably discharged. Buddy worked for the Virginia Highway Department as a Surveyor for over 36 years. Buddy loved gardening, reading, fishing, genealogy, and dogs.

A celebration of Buddy’s life will be held at Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, Lynchburg, on Friday, November 26, 2021 at 10:00 am. Graveside service will follow at Fort Hill Cemetery at 12:00.

Memorial contributions may be made to Chestnut Hill United Methodist Church, Lynchburg, VA.
