Diana Downes Wallace, 85, of Lynchburg, VA, widow of David Benjamin Wallace, passed away peacefully on Friday May 11, 2018.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, she was a daughter of the late Dorrance Albert Downes and Helen Elizabeth (Stickle) Downes.
Diana graduated from Horace Greeley High School and then attended Elmira College where she met her soulmate in 1951.
Mrs. Wallace was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lynchburg, VA.
Diana was a social butterfly who enjoyed playing with her bridge club, gathering with friends and neighbors at the pool and attending events at Oakwood Country Club. She was a pink lady at Virginia Baptist Hospital. Diana also loved her winter siestas in Longboat Key.
She is survived by a son: William Wallace and fiancée Heidi Truong and a daughter: Katharine Wheeler (Mark); five grandchildren Hailey Nguyen, Dylan Wallace, Kyle Wallace Wheeler, Jack Wallace Wheeler, and Lilian Kathryn Wheeler.
In addition to her loving husband of 62 years, Mrs. Wallace is preceded in death by a son, David Benjamin Wallace, Jr. and sister, Nancy Phelan.
A memorial service will be held Monday, May 21, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, VA, with the Reverend Dr. James Price to officiate. A reception will follow the service. Final resting place will be Kensico Cemetery in Valhalla, NY.
