Donald E. Malcolm

Donald E. Malcolm, 88, of Lynchburg, VA, died Friday, February 4, 2011.  Don was born, April 6, 1922, in Lafayette, IN, the son of the late Donald Malcolm and the late Pearl Palmore Malcolm.

He proudly served his country in the 101st airborne as a paratrooper fighting at Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes Alsace, and Central Europe.  He received many honors including the Purple Heart and the Bronze Star.  Following his discharge from the military in 1945, he attended Purdue University and graduated in 1948 with a degree in industrial engineering.  In 1985 he retired from Greenville, OH, as the plant manager for Inland Steel Container Company for 30 years.  He then lived in Venice, FL, for 21 years before moving to Lynchburg and The Summit in 2006.

 

Mr. Malcolm is survived by his wife of 64 years, Yvonne Baker Malcolm; his son Dr. Bradley Malcolm and his wife Susan of Lynchburg; his grandchildren Whitney Malcolm Macechko and husband Matthew of Fayetteville, AR; Paige Malcolm Marks and husband Kean of Lynchburg; Colin Malcolm of Richmond; and great-granddaughters Davlin Macechko of Fayetteville, AR, and Reed Marks of Lynchburg.



A family memorial service will take place at a future date.  Memorial contributions may be made to Lynchburg Grows, the Veterans of Foreign War (www.vfw.org), or any charity of your choice.
