Donald “Duck” Lee Austin, 69 of Lynchburg, Va passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at Lynchburg General Hospital He was born on February 27, 1947 in Newark, New Jersey to the late Lawrence and Constance Haley Austin. He accepted Christ at an early age and joined Jackson Street United Methodist Church. Donald joined the United States Air Force after graduating from Dunbar High School in 1965.
Returning home in the late 80’s he worked for R.R. Donnelly as a printer . Donald also lived and worked in Florida , Massachusetts, and Seattle Washington.
He was a member of the Black Moses Club of Lynchburg . He enjoyed getting together with family and friends, and he especially loved playing cards. His sense of humor kept everyone laughing. He was always laid back and agreeable. He had a quiet and easy going spirit and never met a stranger who he didn’t like. His favorite word was “solid”. Donald took pride in his appearance and was a stickler for being on time.
Donald is survived by his son, Terrence Devon Scott of North Carolina; a devoted cousin and care giver, Dot Swain of Lynchburg; other devoted cousins, Grace Haley Dean of Lynchburg, Raymond Swain (Lisa, Angel) of Salem, Mike Harris (Mary) of Lynchburg, Sean Swain of Indiana, Jackie Hamlett of Lynchburg, Betty Haley Scott of Lynchburg, Lois Blair of Lynchburg; a devoted childhood friend, Hubert Quarles (Chilly) of Lynchburg; and a host of other relatives and wonderful friends including Diane Swain and Kay Jackson both of Lynchburg.
