Donald Ray Parker

June 30, 1948 — November 1, 2023

"What we see now is like a dim image in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. What I know now is only partial, then it will be complete.” (1 Corinthians 13:12a)

Donald Ray Parker’s faith has now turned into sight as he fully sees the wonderful offerings of Heaven. Don’s childhood was spent in Bedford, VA and he later lived in Blue Ridge, VA. He was 75 years of age. He transitioned into the arms of Jesus on November 1, 2023 and is now surrounded by the glory and majesty of his God, Creator, and beloved Savior, Jesus Christ. Don was the son of the late Lonnie Henry Parker and Mary Christine Wood Parker. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Nancy Mitchell, and his brother, Lonnie Thomas Parker.

Don is survived by his wife, Jane Stone Parker; daughters, Angela Leonard, (Alan) and Lara Nichols; grandchildren, Leslie Leonard Wright (Dakota), Joshua Leonard, Adam Nichols, Emma Leonard, and Allison Nichols; one brother, Michael Parker (Rhonda); and sisters, Gwen Craig and Karen Waldron (Johnny); numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Don was affected by dementia in the last few years of his life, but was lovingly cared for to the end by his wife at home. Even through his challenges, he never failed to prompt laughter and joy. He passed surrounded by family.

Don retired from Rubatex Industries. He was a faithful member of Rainbow Forest Baptist Church and an avid hunter and fisherman, well-known for his incredible skill. He was the best Poppy his children and grandchildren could ever wish for! He was also a supporter of mission work and special needs children in honor of his grandson, Joshua.

A private graveside burial with Pastor Jonathan Grooms for the immediate family will be held at Peaks Church Community Cemetery this week. All are invited to a memorial celebration of Don’s life, officiated by Pastor Michael Grooms on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 11:00 AM, Rainbow Forest Baptist Church, 1338 Rainbow Forest Drive, Troutville, VA, 24175. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Global Partners in Peace and Development, 4535 Bonsack Rd NE, Roanoke, VA 24012.
