Donald Russell Redmond, 79, passed away on Thursday, September 27, 2018, at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in Roanoke, Virginia, following a brief illness. Don was born on August 11, 1939, in Columbia, South Carolina, to the late John Gideon Redmond and Mildred White Redmond of Greensboro, N.C. He graduated from Curry High School in 1957 and attended Guilford College for two years. He worked at Alderman Studios in High Point, NC, for a period of time prior to enrolling in the Cleveland Institute of Art in Cleveland, Ohio, where he earned a degree in photography and fine arts in 1966.

Returning to Greensboro, Don spent the next forty years of his professional career with Lorillard Tobacco Company where he was Supervisor and Audio Visual Head. He retired in 1999.Don was an accomplished photographer, artist, cook, gardener, and true romantic. He had resided in Hardy, Virginia since 2003.

Don is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 48 years, Wanda Gantt Redmond of the home; a son, Aaron Donald Redmond; a grandson, Brantley Parker Redmond; one sister, Alicia Carolyn Redmond; two brothers, John Gideon Redmond, Jr. (Ellen), and a twin, Douglas White Redmond, all of Greensboro; four nieces, seven nephews, nine great-nephews, and ten great-nieces.

A memorial service will be held at Trinity Ecumenical Parish in Hardy, VA on Sunday, October 14, 2018, at 2:00 p.m. Tharp Funeral Home and Crematory is serving the Redmond family. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Trinity Ecumenical Parish Memorial Fund, 40 Lakemount Drive, Moneta, VA 24121-1915.
