Donald Wright Johnson

Donald Wright Johnson, age 85, of Lynchburg, passed away on Sunday, January 3, 2021. He was preceded in death by his wife Patricia Carlson Johnson and his two brothers Cecil Stafford Johnson, Jr. (Peggy-living) and Julius Rober Johnson (Ann-living).

Donald was born on March 19, 1935, in Charlottesville, Va., to the late Cecil Stafford, Sr. and Samantha Eleanor Johnson. After graduating from the United States Military Academy in 1958, he proudly served his country in the Army for 11 years. During his service, he served one tour of Vietnam, while travelling the world. After reaching rank of Major, and an Honorable Discharge in 1969, Don moved his family to the Lynchburg area to begin a career at Babcock and Wilcox, but his true passion was teaching. Don went on to a career as a Business Professor at Lynchburg College. Before retiring, Don made it to the Dean of the School of Business.

Don is survived by his three sons, Mark David Johnson (Nancy), Steven Andrew Johnson (Lorrie) and Timothy Eric Johnson (Tammy). Also surviving are his five grandchildren, Matthew Scott Johnson (Mary Hannah), Jeffrey Ryne Johnson (Ashley), Cristin Johnson Fitzgerald (Tyler), Taylor Johnson Cooke (Steven) and Tyler Wright Johnson. Not to be left out are his seven great-grandchildren, Elijah, Gideon, Susannah, Carson, Eleanor, Jacob and Skylar.

Don Bled Army Black and Gold (West Point) throughout his entire life. He was a true disciplinarian that demanded respect. But let it be known, he loved his wife and family and he always put them first.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church.

Tharp Funeral Home & Crematory, Lynchburg, is assisting the family.
