Doris Ann Culbreth Baker, 80, of Lynchburg, died Saturday, July 25, 2015. She was the wife of the late Paul Gene Baker for 50 years.
Born Thursday, July 1, 1935 in Parkton, N.C., Doris was a daughter of the late Bennie Taft Culbreth and the late Nettie Mae Walker Culbreth.
In addition to her husband and parents, Doris was preceded in death by her sisters: Patricia Sue Loving, Margaret Sineath and Eleanor Buppert, and her brother, Bennie Culbreth, Jr.
Doris is survived by her sons, Steven Scott Baker and Howard Terry Baker; her brother, James T. Culbreth and his wife, Marlou, and her brother in-law Robert Loving.
Doris was an active person. She was Secretary for the Lynchburg Women’s Bowling Association and a member of the Lynchburg Bowling Hall of Fame. A member of Ivy Hill Golf Club she and Paul normally played 3 to 4 days a week. A great cook Doris was known for her down home southern cooking. She was a member of Timberlake United Methodist Church.
The family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2015, at Tharp Funeral Home, Lynchburg. A celebration of Doris Ann’s life will follow at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, July 29, 2015 with the Rev. Lynne Alley-Grant officiating. Interment will follow in Virginia Memorial Park.
