Doris Anna Smith

Doris \"Dee\" Anna Petersen Smith, 95, of Lynchburg, VA, and previously of Hempstead and Hamilton, NY and Naples, FL, died Thursday, May 5, 2011, in Lynchburg.Born in Queens, NY, June 15, 1915, she is the daughter of the late Alexander Petersen and Charlotte Young Petersen.Dee attended Adelphi University in Long Island, NY at the age of 16 and received her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology in 1935. She received her Master\"™s degree in Psychology from Columbia University in New York, NY. Dee taught mathematics at Hicksville Junior High School in Long Island, NY for 13 years. She was an avid reader and traveler. Since 1945 she spent each summer with her family at her cottage, Redwood Lodge, on Lake Moraine in Hamilton, NY. Her greatest joy in life was her family.In addition to her parents, Dee was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Albert James Smith.Surviving are her three sons, Steven A. Smith and wife, Judy, of Smith Mountain Lake, Moneta, VA, David F. Smith and wife, Joann Evans-Smith, of Canandaigua, NY, and Paul G. Smith of Colchester, VT; 14 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.In lieu of flowers, please consider a contribution to the Lynchburg Chapter of the Alzheimer\"™s Association, P.O.
